Niels brings a unique blend of expertise at the intersection of science, technology, and data. Trained as a materials scientist and physicist, his Ph.D. work explored the effects of high-energy radiation on metals at the nanoscale. With a strong background in electron imaging physics and extensive experience in Python, high-performance computing, and open-source software development, Niels has contributed significantly to scientific data analysis tools. At VITO, he is currently focused on developing cutting-edge computer vision projects and advancing scientific data management efforts. His deep understanding of data challenges and scientific software development makes him an invaluable voice in the ongoing discussion of data management innovation.​​​​​​​
